The Barefoot Backpackers Got Nominated for the Liebster Award!

WOW! We are so honored to be nominated for the Liebster Award from the AMAZING Califf Creations ! The Liebster Award was created in order to promote new blogs and support the growing blogging community. “Liebster” in German translates to kindest, sweetest, and beloved. We are ecstatic to be apart of this movement and connect with other thriving blogs. So once again, huge thanks to Califf Creations. Visit her site for unique DIY projects, family fun activities, and yummy recipes!

Here are our answers to Califf Creation’s nomination questions:

1. What motivated you to start blogging?

After we graduated university, we we’re craving adventure. We both were not ready to jump into careers. I have a B.A in broadcast journalism and English and Ari has a B.S in East Asian history. We both had visions of where we wanted to be long term, but something was missing in between the present and the future. Both of our areas of study asked for travel…I wanted to go into the international news market and Ari extensively studied Japan and China. So, traveling was the simplest answer to our dilemma. Excursions around the world made sense because we could expand our minds, learn about other cultures, influence positive change globally, and of course…have fun! So we decided to book a ticket around the world! We backpacked across 12 countries in 4 months from Asia to Europe. Before leaving, we didn’t have much money…we recently graduated University and was living in one of the most expensive and high demand locations in Los Angeles, California. When we came back from traveling we were exhausted…in a good way. But, most importantly had a whole new perspective on life. We wanted to continue traveling, feeling carefree, and just loving life. We wanted to share that passion with other young travelers. We started blogging to inspire other millennials to spend time traveling abroad to learn about other cultures and change our world for the better. The Barefoot Backpackers was created to inform other people our age that traveling can be done on a millennial’s budget and to inspire creating your own adventure.

2. What’s your favorite topic to blog about?

This is a hard question! There are so many topics we can talk on and on about! At the end of the day, though, we LOVE sharing our tips on how to travel the world on a budget. This is important to us because unlike other countries, in American culture taking a gap year or extensive travel isn’t as widely accepted. In other countries, it’s totally normal to take a gap year prior to university or traveling long-term. However, in the States you seem to be more on a schedule. Go to school starting at age 5, stress yourself out with college applications at the height of self-discovery, attend university for way longer than the recommended 4 years, land a great internship, graduate and climb the corporate ladder. That’s why blogging about traveling on a budget and inspiring others to “just go” is crucial to us. You can do it! “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone!”, that’s the quote we try to live by.

3. What is your favorite aspect of your personality?

Ari and I like to think we’re both friendly and welcoming people. We constantly find ways to be charitable and make people smile. We are accepting of everyone and believe every living being should be able to peacefully coexist on this world! We definitely need more compassion on a global scale, so we hope to spread love and positivity. I think that’s why we’re so compatible as well! 🙂

4. Who/What do you draw upon for your inspiration?

Our inspiration comes from a number of people and things. We look up to our parents because they taught us kindness and constantly push us to be the better versions of ourselves. The both of us would most definitely not be where we are today if it wasn’t for our families! In terms of blogging, there are a number of influencers we draw inspiration from because we admire their work and hope to create content as amazing as them! Nature is also another inspirational medium for us because we want to be able to learn more about our world and how we can prolong our existence. We want to protect Mother Nature and ensure the longevity of everyone’s lives!

5. What’s your favorite food to cook and to eat?

This is a question for Ari because I don’t cook! I am not a fan of cooking because I don’t have the patience, to be honest. However, Ari is great in the kitchen. His signature dish that he is always trying to perfect is a beautiful bowl of vegan ramen. He is regularly experimenting with his recipe and I love sitting back and watching him create new dishes and of course eating them! The best thing I can cook up in the kitchen is a bowl of cereal, so I’m ecstatic that Ari enjoys cooking! 🙂

6. For fun, if you could have dinner with one person alive or dead, who would you have dinner with and what would be your first question?

This is a packed question! We both can’t choose just one person to have such an experience with! Jareena chooses Bob Marley, Jane Goodall, and the Obama family! My first question….Why are you so awesome?! Lol! But in all honesty, I think I would be speechless if I was at the table with them so asking questions…is out of the question! As for Ariel, he would sit down with Jeff Goldblum and ask him, “Want to split an app?”.
